  1. You Made it to DAY3!Bell Ringer As you walk in please continue to use our entering procedures. Walking, silently doing the bell ringer, and organized for class. Bell Ringer: Write down 2 truths about you and one 1 lie. Your goal is to fool the class into thinking your lie is a truth. I will give you an example when class starts. You will have three minutes to complete this! Do your best!

  2. Computer Etiquette • Just like that bell ringer was a challenge, this class will be a challenge, but like the bell ringer a good and fun one. • We will be using technology throughout the school year. Each of you will use a computer. • To insure we use them appropriately let’s review a little computer etiquette.

  3. Computer EtiqueTte • Treat the computers as if they are your most prized possession. If we take good care of the computers, they will stay in good condition and be available for us. • If a problem should arise with the hardware, report it immediately. • Do not fool around on the computers. Do what you are asked to do. Don’t fool around with the imaging or settings. Don’t try to go to sites that you should not go to or type in words that are inappropriate. Each computer has a filtering program on it that tracks your activities. If you type something inappropriate, you will get caught. It doesn’t matter if it was a joke; you will still get in trouble.

  4. Computer Etiquette • Do not share your passwords or logon for other students to use your password. • Use only the computer that you are assigned to, computer , as that will be your computer for the year and only four students on our team will be using that computer. When you are finished using your computer, plug it in using the appropriate charger. It will help keep the computers organized and neat. • Organize your files. Be consistent in the way that you title your files, and use folders to make your files easy to manage. Use your class period, the name of the assignment and your first initial and last name when naming a file. For example, 3CriticalResponseJDoe or 5T1SimilesListJDoe.

  5. Computer Etiquette • Be a problem-solver. Don’t look for excuses or ways to avoid doing work by blaming technology. I understand that we may not be able to solve all the problems we face on our own and some things are outside of our control, but be responsible for yourself and try to work through any challenges you have. You learn best when you figure things out for yourself. If you can’t figure it out on your own, ask for help from a classmate, parent, or teacher. • Be patient. When you click on a link, wait for a response. Don’t keep clicking because it may slow the process even more or make your computer freeze. Also, be aware that many students may be going to the same link and are working on the same network, which can slow the response time. Understand that technology can be your best friend or worst enemy. It can make your life easier or cause you lots of frustration. When you are feeling irritated, take a breath, and realize that some things are outside of your control and other solutions can be found. You and I will find those solutions if we remain calm and try to work through the obstacles. • Learn from each other and help each other. We all have different levels of experience, and we can help each other and become more knowledgeable if we all are willing to work together.

  6. Discussion • How should we treat our computers? • How can technology help us learn? • You have two minutes to discuss both questions. Go!
