  1. ~Japanese Navy became one of the most modern and powerful in the world. ~Yamamoto was to lead Japan’s entire Navy into war ~Japan took the risk to try to take the oil resources of Southeast Asia. Pearl Harbor: Yamamoto ~This prevented Japan from buying oil, ~Yamamoto thought out plan to attack Pearl Harbor and destroy the US Pacific Fleet. ~To try to get the banning of oil lifted on terms that would still allow them take the land Yamato desired, and ... to get ready for war.   2. Background • Japan was threatening China’s last supply line from the outside world. • the US, Netherlands and Great Britain froze Japanese assets • cutting off 90% of raw materials required by Japan for war production.

  3. Background pt.2 • The US demanded the aggressive actions against China and Indonesia be halted. • Japan was forced to choose between abandoning her efforts or seizure of other areas rich in raw materials. Abandonment was unthinkable and Japan chose the latter.

  4. Background pt.3 • Three days later, Japanese allies Germany and Italy also declared war on the United States, and again Congress reciprocated. • The Americans were taken completely by surprise. But America was triumphant over Japan in the later war.

Background pt.4 • By the end of 1940 Japan was threatening China’s last supply line from the outside world. • Concerned over Japan’s goals, the US, Netherlands and Great Britain froze Japanese assets in their countries and suggested economic limits, cutting off 90% of raw materials required by Japan for war production.

  8. It will teach visitors… How the idea came to Yamamoto to attack the U.S. force. It helps people wanting to be in the army to know what they should be looking for.
