  2. Language Arts at a Glance • This month we have been focused on a novel study of Bridge to Terabithia. • Students have been completing many exercises about the novel. • We have also been working on comic books illustrating the Minotaur. • Students scored could have been better on a recent reading comprehension assessment of Jacques Cartier. I think reading an excerpt over more than once can help improve accuracy. • Signing the agenda daily will help ensure parent-teacher communication. I do write notes home, when students have not completed their work, and their are problems. Please, begin checking the agenda daily.

  3. Mathematics Measurement and Multiplying and Dividing Larger Numbers • Students performed fairly well on their unit 4 test. Class average was 70 %. I think students could have done better had they been studying the practice test more. • Students should continue ask more questions and try to complete past exercises at home or search for grade 5 math concepts on iXl or Khan Academy. Grade 5 will be fast approaching and some students who are struggling with math need to practice more. • We should continue to strive to have full participation in the sample test provided on the class website. Too often similar questions on the tests are incorrect. • I encourage parents to check agendas daily, and to sign the agenda daily. It is a tool for me and you to communicate.

  4. May Art • Please find samples in the appendix • This month we focused on Mothers Day and Hanging Flowers

  5. Science • Currently Students are working on Habitats and communities. • The Field Trip to Science World was a tremendous success. • Their will be a science test on Light and Sound on June 9. A study guide will be posted on the website very soon.

  6. Social Studies • Students have completed a skit about Christopher Columbus dealing with a mutiny aboard his ship. • Students have been working hard on the unit on exploration, they have learned interesting aspects of sailing and navigation. • Students have also learned interesting new terms such as Lead Line and Log Line
