  • In one of Thomas Jefferson’s rough drafts he condemned slavery but other signers argued for it to be removed before they signed.

  • One of the copies of the Declaration of Independence is on display in the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington, D.C.

  • There are 26 copies of the Declaration of Independence

  • John Hancock was the president of the Continental Congress at the time and was the only delegate to sign the Declaration on July 4th, 1776.

  • The other 55 signers didn’t sign it until later in August.
