Earth’s layers

Earth’s layers. From the Outside In. CRUST. Continental Crust is thicker and less dense than oceanic crust. LITHOSPHERE. The lithosphere is a hard solid layer that is broken into pieces called tectonic plates. The lithosphere is the same as the crust plus the upper part of the mantle.

  1. Earth’s layers From the Outside In

  2. CRUST Continental Crust is thicker and less dense than oceanic crust.

  3. LITHOSPHERE The lithosphere is a hard solid layer that is broken into pieces called tectonic plates. The lithosphere is the same as the crust plus the upper part of the mantle.

  4. ASTHENOSPHERE The asthenosphere is a soft solid layer. The tectonic plates made of lithosphere move around on this layer.

  5. MESOSPHERE The mesosphere is the thickest layer.

  6. OUTER CORE The outer core is a liquid layer.

  7. INNER CORE The inner core is the dense, solid center of our planet. It spins inside the outer core.
