Planning Groups Formed after KY Became the 34th State as SEGP Member October 14, 2005 Membership of 147 from K-12 schools, Postsecondary education institutions, state agencies, telecommunication vendors, Kentucky Education Television, ConnectKentucky, Center for Rural Development, etc. Infrastructure Work Group and Applications Work Group 2. Events Taken Place February 8, 2006 –1st Internet2 showcase at KentuckyConnect’s 2006 Tech Day connected with Mote Marine Laboratory via Internet2 and with the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC) via commodity Internet as a contrast May 12, 2006 – Student Technology Leadership Conference showcased CILC program via Internet2 May 16, 2006 – KY Community & Technical College System showcased CILC program via Internet2 May 18, 2006 - 1st KY participation in Megaconference Jr. by Frankfort Independent Schools, the only school district with Internet2 access September 15, 2006 - 1st KY participation in MAGPI’s “America Reads the Constitution” by Frankfort Independent Schools November 1–3, 2006 – KY participation in MAGPI’s “Famous Americans” by Frankfort Independent Schools 2006 - Frankfort Independent Schools participated in or used more than 25 Internet2 events January 17, 2007 – Frankfort Independent Schools participated in MAGPI’s “Stand up, Speak out, Land a hand” February 22, 2007 – Frankfort Independent Schools provided VJ team for Megaconference Jr. March 1, 2007 - University of Louisville and the University of Southern Queensland’s “Southern Skies“ as Internet2 showcase at KentuckyConnect’s 2007 Tech Day March 8, 2007 – Kentucky Teaching & Learning Conference showcased the use of Internet2 applications from Frankfort Independent and Scott County schools and “Southern Skies” March 29, 2007 – Children Connecting Cultures project with Ockerman Elementary students and an elementary school in Haarlem, Netherlands via Northern KY University and INHOLLAND April 11, 2007 – Fayette County’s Squires Elementary School participated in MAGPI’s “Alex’s Virtual Lemonade Stand”, the 1st Internet2 event in Fayette County Schools

KY Internet2 Days • September 29, 2005 – Presentations by Louis Fox and Ann Doyle at the 2005 Breaking Down Barriers Conference, Northern Kentucky University, Highland Heights, KY • October 27, 2006 - Presentations by Ann Doyle and Dale Hilton, The Cleveland Museum of Art, with live programs from the CMA via Internet2 (http://www.ket.org/i2day/), originated from the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY and linked to Eastern Kentucky University, Northern Kentucky University, Morehead State University, Murray State University, University of Louisville and Western Kentucky University

Southern Skies • Remotely operated telescopes in Australia and in Kentucky linked by Internet2 • Offers hands-on discovery and exploration to K-12 and to University students to stimulate interest in science and develop skills for critical thinking • Our own galaxy is best seen from the Southern Hemisphere • The night sky in Australia is accessible during daytime classes in North America

Southern Skies • Project web site under develop at http://www.astro.louisville.edu • Images at http://mtkent3.it-servers.louisville.edu/gallery • Course for teachers on remote astronomy and how to incorporate it in their classes with the help of the planetarium • Summer plans include research on how to make these resources available directly to students and teachers in their classrooms • Technical issues include: • File transfer rate strangely limited to130 KB/s • Dome automation and safe closure • Dew, rain, and wind monitors • Web interface for effective access from classrooms

Strategic Plan • Vision – Use Internet2 applications to transform teaching and learning in the Kentucky’s P-20 education community • Create awareness in the P-20 community • Establish coordinated programs for training and support • Integrate Internet2 applications into curriculum • Assess the impact of Internet2 applications in the enhancement of teaching and learning • Build a business case for sustaining the support for the Kentucky Internet2 Initiative • Adopted March 2007
