2. Open Network Management Initiative • Campuses and Regionals and Internet2 are layering more and more services on their network links. • There is a need to have a better means of understanding how these links are being used and how they are performing. • As an example diagnosing end-to-end performance for a single connection becomes both harder and more significant. • This initiative is directed at providing a means to understand and address these issues. • Within this structure we envision: • Using the perfSONAR infrastructure to provide the data • Working with the community to develop an open set of tools that address specific performance questions • Initially developing some examples and prototypes • Developing an OPEN NETWORK MANAGEMENT platform that incorporates these tools • Could be a turnkey solution • Providing assistance in the use of these tools and understanding their results • This is intended to be an open initiative • We desire input from the community on the structure • We would encourage partnerships aimed at furthering this development • A sample approach will be available by SMM • Contact Dale Finkelson for more information
