Purpose of the Navy Reserves • The purpose of the Reserve is to provide and maintain trained units and qualified persons to be available for active duty in the armed forces when needed.
Navy Reserve Categories • Selected Reserve (SELRES) • Inactive National Guard • Individual Ready Reserve (IRR)
Reserve Affiliation Procedures • DD 214 • Copy of DD Form 2807-1/2808 (HIV test is required) • Copy of last 3 evals/fitreps
Select Reserve Obligations • Inactive Duty Training (IDT): • 1 weekend per month • Annual Training (AT): • 12 to 17 days per fiscal year
Select Reserve Benefits • Pay • 4 days of active duty base pay for 2 days of weekend training • SGLI: • Up to $400,000 • Advancement: • E-5 and below exams are administered in February and August • CPO exams are in February • Educational Opportunities: • Use of Navy College Offices • Navy Cool • USMAP and Tuition Assistance
Select Reserve Benefits (cont.) • Uniform Entitlements • Medical/Dental Coverage – TRICARE • Member Only - $47.82 per month • Member & Family - $217.51 per month • Commissary/NEX/MWR: • Unlimited use of military exchanges and commissaries • “Space A” Air Travel • Mobilization Deferment • Retirement
Individual Ready Reserve Participation • Keep PERS-93 informed • Maintain physical readiness • Respond to all official correspondences • Participate in the Annual Screening Program • Maintain military uniforms in serviceable condition • Satisfy minimum participation requirements
Individual Ready Reserve Benefits • Reenlistments/Extensions • Commissary/NEX • Reserve Retirement • ID card
Inactive National Guard • Ready Reserve of the United States Army • Only the Army maintains an ING • Recalled to AD with assigned unit
