  1. New Qualifications For MOT Testers - Skills and Education The DVSA ( Driver and vehicles standards agency) has developed new qualification requirements for MOT testers and MOT testing management to standardize MOT training across the country. The newly developed standards are- ● Level 2 Award - MOT testing ● Level 3 Award - MOT test centre management It is an opportunity for colleges, MOT training providers and MOT test centres to deliver the qualification directly to aspiring MOT tester candidates at their in-house facilities. The qualifications are regulated by Ofqual, which is the working body responsible for regulating qualifications, assessments and examinations. Level 2 MOT Testing Award A level 2 MOT testing award is now mandatory for prospective MOT testers in their respective vehicle class. The new qualifications replace the previous nomination system used to train new MOT testers. To become an MOT tester, you must complete an MOT tester qualification course. The course includes theory and practical training to become an MOT tester. You will be assessed using a multiple-choice question test and a practical MOT demonstration test. The five-part course structure is as follows: ● Safe working practices ● Working relationships ● Managing your professional growth as an MOT tester ● Conducting pre-checks as an MOT tester ● Conducting an MOT test You must pass each of the examinations separately to complete the course. When you complete the course, you receive a Level 2 MOT testing award in your MOT classes. ● Group A- Class 1 and 2 vehicles ● Group B- Class 4 and 7 vehicles After receiving your certificate, you will need to book a demonstration test with the DVSA.

Level 3 MOT Test Centre Management Award The Level 3 Award in MOT test centre management recognizes the efforts of professionals who qualify to manage MOT test centres and conduct MOT assessments. The qualification required to manage an MOT test centre primarily focuses on its legislative and compliance knowledge. Special emphasis is given to: ● Improve customer service ● Supervising staff ● Understanding quality systems ● Audits With this new qualification in place, all the MOT test centres across the country will function at the same high standards as devised by the DVSA.
