  1. Comparing RIP, REGA and SIMPLOT software to define the HIV-1 recombination in Mexican population • The aim of this study was to compare RIP, REGA and SIMPLOT software for recombination analysis in Mexican population among 215 HIV- 1 patients, using DNA sequencing of Pr and RT regions of pol gene • Results: • Using all programs in 215 sequences were (88.84%) subtype B and (11.16%) recombinants • Average 96.43% subtype B and 3.57% recombinants

  2. Results Concordance assigning recombination 2 samples Recombinants % 4.2 2.8 3.7

  3. Conclusions • The percentage of recombination was similar among the 3 programs, however, there is low concordance among them. • REGA was the strictest to define the recombination. • REGA and RIP have pre-established sequences while SIMPLOT allows the user the incorporation of sequences to improve the analysis • In our experience we prefer to use SIMPLOT.
