  7. Not dependant of time and place Full! She has heard that web-based studying is not dependant of time and place. Her calendar is quite full so there is no time to move from one place to another. She chooses the web option.

  8. Tutor! She is studying in the evening. She has difficulties in understanding one of the formulas. Unfortunately nobody is online at the same time. She decides to send a question to her tutor.

  9. PIIP! !!! S-116 kurssin one question! I’ll get back to you in the morning! Her tutor is already at home. She hears the sound of her PDA. There is a note from Milla. Tutor replies that she’ll answer to Milla’s question in the morning.

  10. !!! A message: I’ve thought about the same problem Milla continues studying. It’s getting very late. Finally someone else seems to be online. Her friend sends her a note telling that she’s has thought about the same problem and might be able to help.

  11. Audiomeeting! In the morning Milla’s tutor replies. She uses audiomeeting and document sharing to visualise her answer. That material can be used by the others later.

  12. eLearning - could offer possibilities • A possibility to combine different tools • More possibilities for interaction between students, teachers and tutors. • Possibility for synchronous communication

  13. Currently... • traditional teaching models have been transferred to web-based learning environments --> Have we taken steps backwards? • eLearning materials are often text-based --> emphasis should be on using thenew possibilities for communication and interaction • too often students don’t get enough of guidance and tutoring --> emphasis should be on developing new methods for tutoring and guidance

  14. Myths eLearning is a cost-effective way to teach eLearning is not dependent of time and place The amount of teachers' work will decrease. eLearning will provide only B-class teaching There will be no need for face-to-face lectures Reality eLearning will usually cost more There is always a need for time and a place The amount of teachers’ work will increase. The quality of learning is often better than in face-to-face situations. There will always be a need for face-to-face situations along with eLearning Myths and Reality
