  2. Today’s Focus… What are your options after Year 10? SET Plan process… Different types of subjects… What qualifications can you leave CSHS with? Pre-requisites for Year 11 subjects… Subject selections for 2015….

SET PLAN • A personal learning plan for each student. • A set of achievable goals about the student’s future plans. • Identifies ambitions through career goals. • A map of what students will do and study in the senior phase of learning. • Starts term 3, culminating with parent-student-teacher interview on 25th August.

  4. SET Plan Process • Discuss future with parents • Listen to HoD subject talks weeks 1 and 2 • Complete OneSchool document • Complete subject selection

  6. Options After Year 10… EARNING OR LEARNING Return to school to study Years 11 & 12. Combination of school and external study. School-based traineeships/apprenticeships. Leave school to study full-time at another institution. Employment or training (25 hours/week).

  8. If you return to CSHS for Years 11 & 12… Different types of subjects are available to study… VET SUBJECTS Subjects that offer nationally accredited certificate qualifications. AUTHORITY-REGISTERED SUBJECTS Do not contribute towards an OP. AUTHORITY SUBJECTS Contribute towards an OP.

Returning to Study Yr 11 & 12 at CSHS QUALIFICATIONS AT THE END OF YEAR 12, depending on your course of study and successful completion… All Year 12 students… Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) Senior Statement – Subject exit results, at the end of Year 12. OP-eligible students… Tertiary Entrance Statement – OP & FPs. Students studying VET subjects… Nationally accredited certificates – Attained through VET subjects.

QCE… A student will obtain a QCE if they achieve… 20 credit points Exit Year 12 with a sound achievement or better in 5 or more subjects over 4 semesters. 3 of these subjects must be studied for 4 semesters. Authority, authority-registered and certificate subjects (Certificate II) are worth 4 points each. Some certificate subjects are worth less than 4 points (Certificate I) and some certificate subjects are worth more than 4 points (Certificate III). School-based traineeships/apprenticeships also contribute to QCE points. AND Literacy and numeracy Required to achieve a “C” in English/English Communication for literacy and “C” in Prevocational Maths/Maths A/Maths B/Maths C in at least 1 semester. OR Achieve a “C” on the QCS test.

  12. Senior Statement This statement is a record of your subject results, upon exiting Year 12.

  13. Tertiary Entrance Statement Overall Position (OP) – best option for students who want direct entry to University. OP scores range from 1 – 25 (1 being the highest and 25 lowest). Compare overall student achievement throughout Queensland. To be OP eligible, students must study a minimum of 5 Authority subjects; with at least 3 of these studied over 4 semesters. Students must also sit the QCS (Qld Core Skills) Test to be OP eligible. Field Positions (FP) FPs are additional rank orders that supplement an OP. FPs are used by tertiary institutions to help differentiate between students with the same OP. FPs are reported in 10 bands, from one (the highest) to 10 (the lowest).

  17. School-based Traineeship/Apprenticeship Non-OP eligible Students Students wishing to complete a SBT/SBA need to consider authority-registered subjects and/or VET subjects . OP eligible Students OP-eligible students will only be considered for school-based traineeship/apprenticeship under special circumstances. Interview with Year 11 Deputy Principal and parent/guardian is required. Traineeship Information at OPEN DAY on 3rd August

  18. Pathways Students need to consider their pathways /career goals after Year 12, before choosing subjects for Year 11 & 12. Minimum 5 Authority Subjects + QCS Test University degree Full-time courses( OP ) TAFE entry (OP) employment/ Apprenticeship Combination of Authority- registered/VET/Authority subjects University entry for some TAFE entry (Rank) Full-time degree courses (Rank) employment/ Apprenticeship

  20. Pre-requisites for Marine and Aquatic Practices and Certificate II in Sport and Recreation Students must have the ability and preparedness to go swimming and/or snorkelling.

  21. Additional Subject Requirements for Year 11 & 12 A number of subjects require students to attend camps, as it is an essential element contributing towards assessment.

STRUCTURED WORKPLACE LEARNING • IS COMPULSORY FOR WORKPLACE PRACTICES, HOSPITALITY, D2C & OPTIONAL FOR CONSTRUCTION • 5 weeks of work placement is allocated, during specified times on the school calendar across Year 11 & 12 to enable students to meet SWL– 2 different workplace sites. Further requirements for D2C. • 120 hours of vocational placements are also required forCertificate III in Children’s Services.

  25. School-based Traineeship/ Apprenticeship Also known as SATs with Mrs Kerr

  26. What is a SAT? SATs allow high school students to work for an employer and train towards a recognised qualification while completing their secondary school, as well as studying for their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).

  27. Who is eligible? Students in Year 10/11/12 are eligible to become a school-based apprentice or trainee. Students who have indicated on their SET Plan that they are interested in a SAT.

  28. How do SATs work? * Students attend the workplace one day a week. * Students are paid. * 50 days a year required. * Additional training – theory.

  29. Getting started Talk to your family. Speak to employers. Caboolture SHS will assist with essential paperwork for a SAT once YOU find an employer

  30. Watch the daily notices! Occasionally an employer contacts the school looking for a student wanting to do a SAT – listen to daily notices for this information.

  32. HOW DO I GET SIGNED AS AN APPRENTICE/ TRAINEE? * Employer * Trainee & Parent * Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) * School- Mrs Kerr * Supervising Registered Training Organization (SRTO) * Department of Education, Training & Employment (DETE)

  33. You bring information to Mrs Kerr. Mrs Kerr organises the paperwork. The SAT must be approved by the Principal and formal papers must be signed by the Principal.
