  1. Online Demonstration: USGS Hazards Data Distribution System (HDDS) 2 March 2012

  2. Hazards Data Distribution System (HDDS) • The HDDS provides a consolidated storage and point-of-entry system for access to the USGS-hosted datasets related to emergency response. • HDDS supports two access categories: • Public – unrestricted access for general public • Restricted – password-protected access for designated emergency response personnel. Contains licensed data not intended for public use. • All requests for Restricted access are submitted and approved on event-by-event basis. • Requested online through HDDS interface: http://hdds.usgs.gov/hdds2/

  3. HDDS Interface Options Available since June 2010 http://hdds.usgs.gov/EO/quick_downloads.php

  4. HDDS Interface Options • HDDS (Directory-based) • The original HDDS interface provides web-based (HTTP) file viewing and download access through a hierarchical, directory-based navigation structure • Organized by date, event type, and location with a standardized sub-directory structure • Example: 201010_Volcano_Indonesia • http://hdds.usgs.gov/hdds/(Provides access to the Public Datasets and Restricted Datasets)

  5. HDDS – Directory View Public HDDS Holdings Restricted HDDS Holdings Discovery Tools and Other Data (Maps, etc.) Full-resolution Image Data

  6. HDDS2 - Graphical Interface http://hdds.usgs.gov/hdds2/

  7. HDDS2 - Graphical Interface • Features • Interactive map-based interface (HDDS2) • Full resolution imagery (GeoTIFF format) • Reduced resolution JPEG (low, medium, and browse quality) • Graphical data viewing with browse and footprint area overlay • Search by event, location, date • Extensive metadata reported in multiple formats (e.g. CSV, KML, shapefiles, etc.) • Includes storage and directory-based access for all non-ingested (“ad hoc”) datasets • RSS feed available • Registration service and login access for ‘Restricted’ datasets • Bulk delivery capability via downloadable web-based client http://hdds.usgs.gov/hdds2/

  8. HDDS Demonstration http://hdds.usgs.gov/hdds2/
