Overview of the NAWQA Data Warehouse for Water Quality Information

This presentation provides insights into the NAWQA Data Warehouse, highlighting its comprehensive dataset of water quality information collected from 1991 to 2003. Attendees will learn how to navigate the warehouse, locate study sites, retrieve specific constituent data, and understand what to expect from the website's features. Key data includes chemical concentrations in various mediums, nutrient and pesticide samples, and biological community data, as well as access to streamflow information across multiple water bodies in the U.S.

  2. Questions I’ll Try To Answer • What data are in the warehouse? • How would you find out about sites? • How would you find data for constituents? • How would you download data? • What else can our website do for you?

  3. NAWQA Data Warehouse Contains: • Data from 1991 through 9/30/2003 • 42 NAWQA study units (basins) across the U.S. • Chemical concentrations in water, bed sediment, and aquatic organism tissues for about 609 chemical constituents • 44,000 nutrient samples, 26,000 pesticide samples, 8,000 VOC samples • 2,650 samples of bed sediment and aquatic organism tissues

  4. NAWQA Data Warehouse Contains (continued): • 6,400 surface water sites and 7,000 wells • Daily streamflow data for ~500 sites • Site, basin, well, and network information with many descriptive variables • 2,000 fish-community samples, 1,800 invertebrate community samples • Algae community samples and instream habitat data are coming

  5. How To Find The NAWQA Data Warehouse • URL water.usgs.gov/nawqa/data • google “water quality data”
