Building an evidence base (continued) • Review data that already exists at a local level • Explore data that can be obtained through secondary analysis of existing datasets • Identify where new data required, e.g. • Prioritise key questions to address and consider type of study required
Questions might include ... • What proportion of lgbt people are: • employed (full-time, part-time, self employed)? • unemployed? • economically inactive? • What proportion of lgbt people are: • employed in the private sector? • employed in the public sector? • employed in the third sector?
Questions might include ... • Do lgbt people experience discrimination: • in the recruitment process? • in the workplace? • In seeking progression? • Do employers monitor the sexual orientation and trans status of their workforce?
Building a survey panel • Aim for panel to be reflective of demographic profile – age, gender, disability, race, religion or belief, social class and sub-regions • Advertise widely across lgbt groups and social networks, employers, unions and others to maximise reach • Commission researchers to facilitate anonymised data analysis
