  1. Sample Body A paragraph • Read the excerpt from my biographical narrative. • Try and identify all the terms you can: • direct vs. indirect characterization • anecdotes (stories) • “dialogue” vs. interior monologue • sensory details (and which sense it appeals to)

  2. My father is a thoughtful dad. In fact, during winter holidays, he would take our entire family skiing. He scattered six lift tickets across our green carpet, as a huge smile spread across his face. “Hurry up, kids! Get in the car. We gotta get to the snow before it melts,” he’d bellow from the house. His voiced boomed like a cannon, yet underneath that rough noise, I knew he was as gentle as a newborn fawn. I’m moving. Quit yelling at us. I’d rather stay home for the holidays anyway. It wasn’t until late in high school that I appreciated what he did for me. I used to be embarrassed that he didn’t buy us many Christmas gifts. While it seemed like my friends got towers of toys, I just got dragged to the slopes every winter. If it wasn’t for his fun adventures, I’d never have learned to ski.
