Membrane filtration1
Membrane Filtration

Dilutions:

Select appropriate volumes

Fecal Coliform or E. coli colonies: 20-60*

Total colonies: 200

*Use range as specified in particular method.

Blanks:

  • Beginning of series

  • End of series

  • RECORD results of blanks

Membrane filtration3
Membrane Filtration

Calculating Results:

  • Use dilution that is in range to determine result.

  • If multipleplateswithin range, average those plate counts.

  • If zero colonies on all plates, calculate as if 1 colony on filter from largest volume processed. Include remark “<“ in comments.

Calculating Results:

  • If all plates are above range, calculate using filter from smallest volume processed. Include remark “Estimated“ in comments.
