  2. Introduction Every day we are surrounded by all possible types of mass media: newspapers, magazines, radio, television and the Internet. Mass media play an important role in our life. They inform about events in the world, they entertain us at any time of day and night and they influence our opinions.

  3. Print mass media include newspapers, books and magazines. In the twentieth century, they became less popular because of the technological progress and the new inventions. Broadcast media include, first of all, radio and television. These were the new inventions that partially replaced books and papers in the twentieth century. They made possible a more quick transmission of information. Moreover, television has become an extremely popular entertainment for everybody who has a TV set at home. There are hundreds of channels. Millions of people still watch movies and TV shows every day. Recently, though, all the previous types of mass media have given way to the newest, revolutionary service – the Internet. One can read paper articles and books, listen to broadcasted programs and music, watch videos, including online transmissions of the TV channels, and everything at one place: on the Internet. It is very convenient. Almost everybody can access the Internet via their mobile phones now. It is an instant way of transmitting information worldwide.

  4. The British Media consists of the press and radio and TV broadcasting. Now a couple of words about papers. First of all there is no subscription. You may buy any on sale. There are two main types of newspapers: the «popular» papers and the «quality» papers. The popular papers are less in size, with many pictures, big headlines and short articles. They are easy to read. They are such papers as «Daily Express», «Daily mail», «Daily Mirror», «Daily Star», «The Sun» and others.

  5. The «quality» papers are for more serious readership. These papers are bigger in size, with larger articles and more detailed information. The «quality» papers are — «The Times», «DailyTelegraph», «The Guardian», «Financial Times», «The Independent».

  6. In addition to daily papers we have just mentioned above there are Sunday papers. They have a higher circulation than the dailies. Sunday papers in Great Britain are such «quality» papers as «Observer», «Sunday Times», «Sunday Telegraph» and such «popular» papers as: «News of the World», «Sunday Express», «Sunday Mirror», «Mail on Sunday».

  7. As far as broadcasting and telecasting are concerned there are two radio and TV stations. The first one — well-known BBC — British Broadcasting Corporation, and the second — IBA — Independent Broadcasting Authorities.

  8. conclusion Looking through the whole information I have come to the conclusion that the volume of information in the modern world is tremendous, that is why we should decide for our selves what is really necessary and what some day may appear to be useless.
