  1. Mass Media in the British Isles2005 Ashley Daughdrill and Rachel Perez

  2. PACKING!?! • The weather will be chilly…pack a jacket! • There is a chance that the airline WILL loose your luggage…TAKE A CARRY ON!! • Bring a pair of Sunglasses • Comfortable shoes are a necessity • Bring a back pack (LL Bean type) for your weekend excursions • Do not over-pack! You will buy clothes, shoes and accessories there…don’t bring a lot of them! • You can wear colors!!! • A medicine kit for yourself is a great idea • If you like to run/jog bring work-out clothes. Hyde Park is just across the street!

  3. DOLLARS…POUNDS…EUROS • Use your credit cards…they offer the best exchange rate and they are insured in case they are stolen. • HSBC and RBS are the best ATMs to use…they charge the lowest rates. Stay away from Barclays, they charge the most. • Don’t carry your cash around. Leave it locked in the safe in your room. I carried no more than 30 pounds at any time.

  4. WEST END SHOWS!!!! • TKTS booth in Leicester Square will save you money • See as many shows as you can…you won’t regret it! • Popular shows may offer 10am/day of show specials! THEY ARE A GREAT DEAL!!

  5. When in Rome….Or Great Britain… • Try all of the local cuisine! • LONDON: Fish & Chips • SCOTLAND: Haggis • FRANCE: Quiche & Pastries • SKYE: Salmon • Local beers & wines usually taste the best and are the best deal.

  6. Electronics and Converters….Yikes…. - It is likely that your hair dryer, flat iron or curling iron will not work…regardless of what type of converter you use or how much you paid for it - Your electronics will only work if they claim that they are “DUAL VOLTAGE”

  7. My Suggestions for LONDON • Tower of London…a must see and take the full tour • Big Bus Tours…pass on it…take the Tube • CAMDEN TOWN!...my favorite place! • Covent Garden…for a sunny afternoon • River Boat Tour…DO IT!! • St. Paul’s/Westminster…Beautiful • Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese…BEST BEER IN TOWN!! • For a night out…Ruby Blue in Leicester Square or Roadhouse in Covent Garden

  8. My Suggestions for SCOTLAND • Edinburgh Castle…So Awesome!! • Arthur’s Seat…Worth the Work! • The Real Mary King’s Close Tour…Such a good tour, but you must go at night! You’ll be scared! • THE TRON!...Get a Yellow Card…we were there EVERY night! • Puppetry of the Penis… it kind of made me nervous…Use your own judgement • For a night out: City Nightclub was amazing • RESEARCH THE CASTLES BEFORE YOU GO! Learning the stories behind them makes them SO much MORE interesting!!!

  9. Hehe…Fringe Festival

  10. My Suggestions for Skye and The Highlands! • Dunvegan Castle…Breathtaking! • Chandlery Seafood Restaurant…One of the best meals I had this summer…try the Black Cuillin Beer • Research the towns in these areas, they are so historical and picture-perfect • Horseback riding through the Isle of Skye • Inverness, Scotland was my favorite place that we went to all summer…don’t miss the walking bridge across the River Ness! • Be sure to find Nessie swimming around Urquardt Castle

  11. Some Pictures from 2005…

  12. More 2005 Pictures!

  13. Don’t Forget…. • Don’t forget your film, camera batteries and extra memory cards for digital cameras • Be safe, you’ll get comfortable, but you are in a foreign country and things are going be different • Do NOT talk about Lance Armstrong in France…they get pissed  - REALLY PISSED • Have a French dictionary on hand, so you can successfully ask for things like a bathroom, a fork or just directions • Contact Credit Card companies and Banks ahead of time. If you forget, they will not allow you to access your accounts in other countries. • HAVE FUN and I will see you in JULY!!!
