Learn how to correct sentences with misplaced and dangling modifiers to make the meaning clear and avoid confusion.
E N D
Modifier- word, phrase, or clause that modifies or describes Misplaced Modifier- a modifier that is incorrectly separated from what it is supposed to describe. This often changes the meaning of the sentence or makes it sound awkward, ridiculous, or confusing. Dangling Modifier- a modifier that is not clearly related to the word it modifies. Unlike a misplaced modifier, it cannot simply be moved. It must be changed. For example: Misplaced Modifier I almost failed every class. I failed almost every class. (barely passed all classes) (only passed some classes) Dangling Modifier Feeling cold, a hoodie was put on. Feeling cold, Tim put on a hoodie. (the hoodie felt cold) (Tim felt cold)
