Year Round Vocabulary • Tracking In – when students are attending school • Tracking Out – when students are out of school, usually tracking consists of 45 days in and then 15 days off (due to calendar and track those do vary) • Teams/Tracks - each team at each grade level has a team name and track (Example: 6/4 Toucans are 6th grade students who are on Track 4 and their ‘team’ name is the Toucans) • Pods - the area outside each grade level group of classrooms where students gather for meetings, etc.

  4. LRMS Staff • 72% of teachers hold highly qualified licensure in two or more core subjects • Assistant Principals and counselors work with specific teams • Conscientious and caring support staff • Lufkin staff choose to be here and are a family

  11. 2018-2019 School Year • 315 of our students are identified as Academically and/or Intellectually Gifted, or 32% of our students • 58 students are members of the National Junior Honor Society. • The Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Program provides an appropriately challenging education for students who perform, or show potential for performing, at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared to others of their age, experience, or environment.  Services for AIG students include differentiated curriculum and instruction that extends and enriches the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.

School Safety • Security • Only front door remains unlocked during school day • Staff easily identified by school ID • Visitors and subs sign in and are given a badge to wear while in the building • Monthly fire drills • Lockdown and security procedures are in place and practiced • Proactive focus on discipline • Full-time SRO (School Resource Officer)

  16. hat Now? • What do you need to do so your child can attend Lufkin Road Middle School? • IF Lufkin is your child’s base school – do nothing. • Otherwise, apply online at www.wcpss.net/parents/student-assignment between now and January 30, 2019. • Should you have any additional questions, please • take a 3x5 file card and write down your question(s). • We will compile a “Want to Know” question and • answer link under the Student Services tab on the • Lufkin website. Answers to questions will be posted • under the Student Services tab by the end of the • school day on Tuesday, January 22, and will add to it • as additional questions arise.
