Ravi Ashwin Recalls The Moment When Ankit Rajpoot Disobeyed Him Pace bowler Ankit Rajput has recently recalled a moment when he disobeyed his captain Ravi Ashwin in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match two years ago. It was in 2019 and Mumbai Indians were chasing a huge total of 198 posted by Kings XI Punjab. Ravi Ashwin used to lead Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) then and he had a suggestion for Rajpoot who was bowling the final over. Mumbai Indians’ last wickets were batting and Ashwin knew they would take a single, so he asked Rajpoot not to bowl and threaten them with Mankad – an act which made headlines, as well as controversy as Ashwin earlier, did the same in the tournament. Meanwhile, this interesting incident was revealed by Ashwin himself when he was speaking to Murali Karthik on his Youtube show ‘DRS with Ash.’ However, Ashwin had mankaded Jos Buttler earlier in the tournament but Rajpoot didn’t and Mumbai eventually won the game as well. While many believed Ashwin shouldn’t do that, a few did support him as well. “After the incident happened against Rajasthan (Jos Buttler Mankading controversy), in the next match we were playing Mumbai. The last-wicket pair of Rahul Chahar and Alzarri Joseph were batting. One ball and two runs to win. I went to the bowler Ankit Rajpoot and told him, ‘these batsmen will be charging out to run. Just stop and send them back in if he (non-striker) starts running before you deliver’. He was scared and said, ‘No way, I won’t do that,” the veteran recalled the incident. Image Source by twitter
