  3. Oil company data obligations • To deliver to the Secretary of State • any data • at any time from now until eternity • in any format specified by DTI • This applies to any company • that has ever been involved in a licence.

  4. Information Strategy Just in time v Just in case • Only receive and store Information used on a regular basis in necessary business functions. • Information needed occasionally should be stored / retained elsewhere by third parties eg CDA , DEAL. • Define appropriate standards for storage and exchange of Information (XML) eg PPRS. • Audit companies to ensure that they are satisfying their data retention obligations.
