Recognised Nationally for Excellence in Responding to Learner NeedsHighly Commended Award 2009 from LSIS • Sir George Monoux College Recognised Nationally for Excellence in Responding to Learner Needs • Highly Commended, KiechelleDegale, scoops a National STAR Award • On Thursday 26 November, KiechelleDegale, ECM and Enrichment Manager at Sir George Monoux College scooped a National Star Award from the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) in recognition of her tremendous work in managing the diverse and exciting enrichment programme offered at Sir George Monoux College. Finalist Kiechelle was presented with the highly commended award in the "Responding to Learner Needs" category at the sixth annual LSIS STAR Awards Ceremony held at Old Billingsgate in London. The ceremony was attended by over 500 learning and skills sector staff, learners and special guests, including the further education minister, Kevin Brennan MP. • Winner, KiechelleDegale said "I am absolutely thrilled to have won this award. Sir George Monoux College puts the learners at the very heart of everything it does and it makes me so happy to see the College recognised nationally for the hard work of all our staff and students." • Kiechelle has pioneered the College's extensive enrichment programme which provides every student with the opportunity to engage in a spectrum of cultural events and celebrations, sporting and community-based activities, clubs and societies and the many skill-based programmes and awards which are now fully embedded with the College's curriculum. She has made a significant impact in responding to learner needs, which has in turn lead to the enhancement of the College's students’ learning experience. In addition to a stunning crystal trophy, Kiechelle received a certificate and a prize of financial support to put towards her professional and personal development. • The LSIS awards play a critical role in celebrating the achievements of the country’s further education sector and sharing best practice. This year, LSIS received a record number of nominations from across the country and the standards of nominees were extremely high.

Visiting speakers, projects with careers department, first aid, curriculum related projects, student exchange visits Community participation and engagement Activities that encourage students to work for the benefit of others and get involved with community projects on a local, national or international basis. It helps students to understand their impact on the world and the importance of helping others, while giving them a real sense of achievement. London citizens, volunteering, projects with the local community, Olympic related events, activities and projects Personal development Activities that students choose to do in addition to their academic pursuits, demonstrating motivation, breadth of experience and wide-ranging interests. Leadership Academy, life skills training and team building, groups, clubs, societies, theme days, fundraising Awards and celebrations Jack Petchey Achievement Awards, Annual events [leavers’ ball, Barbeque, fresher's, award ceremonies] celebration of independence days, new years & interfaith events, 7 habits of Highly Effective Students [Franklyn Covey] Sports Basketball, football, cricket, table tennis, badminton, gym, zumba, Asian fusion, athletics , archery, yoga Health& Safety A range of talks by police and community organisations addressing issues like knife and gun crime, bullying, sexting, cyber bullying, homophobia. Healthy College initiatives, no smoking day, drug and alcohol awareness etc.
