  3. Activity 1 – 5 mins • Using a page in your books and in pairs • Brain Storm – What do you think Music in Wales is? (Styles, famous people, festivals) • Listen to the music in the background to help you

  4. Traditional Music • Harps – 4 types • Celtic (Medieval Period) • Triple • Pedal • Electric • Music Using the Harp and Voice – Cerdd Dant

  5. Cerrd Dant – Harp and Voice • Traditional Music of Wales • Originally used as a competition – Eisteddfod • Harp part usually remained the same; vocal part would improvise

  6. Art Song - • Voice and Piano • Very descriptive • Music is often about feelings – Love, hate etc (Romantic Period of Musical History 1800-1900 approx) • Important words • Strophic – same music repeats for the complete song • Through composed – music is different for each verse, music changes all the time

  7. Folk Music • Traditional Instruments • Harp • Flute/Tin Whistle/pipe • Fiddle • Drum • Vocal
