  2. What’s All This About? • Wayne County Department of Environment (WCDOE) enlisted the help of the Stream Team to undertake a benthic monitoring program beginning in 2004, engaging a large number of volunteers in annual aquatic invertebrate sampling of the Southern Wayne County Watersheds

  3. Why? • Different species of aquatic • invertebratesare indicators of water quality: • Examples • Poor: Sludgeworms, Leeches • Fair: Craneflies, Dragonflies • Good: Stoneflies, Caddisflies

Key Findings: • Frank & Poet Creek water quality in • the Fall was Poor to Fair at CD-1 and • CD-2, respectively (for both 2004 & 2005). • Water Quality Rating increased slightly • at CD-1 (from 12.3 to 15.3); but, • decreased at CD-2 (from 30.7 to 23.4) • during Fall sampling in 2004 and 2005.

  11. Key Findings: • The poorest water quality ratings were • Recorded in the Spring of 2005 (CD-1 = 11.4; • CD-2 = 16.4) • Caddisflies were abundant during Fall, • 2004 sampling; but, were entirely absent • During Fall, 2005 sampling at site CD-2!!
