  2. Help with sensitive stuff • Sexuality • Critical appraisal skills are particularly important • What Mother might prefer • What daughter might prefer • “Straight” talk • Not so straight talk • Body Image • Eating disorders • Pro-ana • Other stuff

  3. Evaluation Assignment: 1. Find Resources • Select an age group (6-9, 10-12, 13-16) • Search (and surf) for information, entertainment, and communication sites designed for your age group • Collect in HF • Find 3-10 of each type of resource • Don’t need the template yet • Two Fridays (and Reading Week) set aside • Friday classes optional attendance • Can surf with a partner but need to select separate resources

  4. Evaluation Assignment:2. Develop Appraisal Criteria • How do we appraise different Web resources for different ages? • Last week’s assignment was to find extant resources • What do we need to add, given our expertise in cognitive and social/emotional development? • Think of criteria as you collect • We’ll develop these criteria Feb 24, 26

  5. Evaluation Assignment:3. Initial Appraisal of your Resources • Select 2-3 resources of each type • “Good” and “bad” examples? “Good” and “very good” examples? At least one should be the “best” you can find • Organize, describe, and appraise (with our criteria) on the Evaluate.hft • Submit your draft worksheet electronically to Connie by March 3

  6. Evaluation Assignment:4. Presentation • Select ONE resource to present and evaluate in your presentation during Mar 3-12 • Select a resource that has some depth • Rationalize your selection in your presentation • Present your resource and appraise it using our criteria • If new/other criteria seem to be important, include them in your presentation • Informal presentation is fine (don’t need an elaborate .ppt-and-cue-cards kind of presentation) • Marks will be based on your comfort with your resource and comprehensiveness of your appraisal

  7. Evaluation Assignment:5. Final Worksheet • We will finalize the appraisal criteria by March 14 • Submit your completed worksheet to Connie by March 17 • Marks will be based on your descriptions of the selected resources and comprehensiveness of your appraisals
