  4. MEETING WITH PARENTS • Notification for meeting with Form One Parents/Guardians went out on October 29. • Meeting set for November 11, 9:30 a.m. • Planned Program established • Distribution of Laptops to parents at the end of the meeting.

  5. SENTIZATION OF STUDENTS • Delayed • Meeting planned for November 30

Staff Meeting re distribution and security of laptops • Principal meet with Heads of Departments to appraise them of the distribution and security plan for laptops. • Form One teachers were identified to be the main persons to assist with the distribution to parents. • The distribution took place in class groups. • One other teacher was identified to assist each form teacher. • Two Form Five IT students were assigned to each form teacher.

  7. SECURITY IMPLMENTATION • Identification of secured storage room for safe keeping of laptops upon receipt. • Establishment of directives for security head. • Laptops to be distributed to parents upon signing off on contract.

  8. STORAGE CARTS • A proposal was but forward to parents/guardians for the joint purchase of Charging/Storage Carts. • The school to contribute 50% of the cost of a cart and the other 50% shared among parents/guardians. • Cart identified can simultaneously charge and securely store up to 36 laptops. • Five such carts are required for each school.

  9. ADDITIONAL SECURITY MEASURES • Student lockers were refurbished and reinforced to provide for the storage of laptops during the school day. • Lockers are NOT to be used for overnight storage of laptops. • Laptops locks are also being recommended to parents/guardians for purchase and use by students.

  10. LAPTOP LOST/THEFT POLICY • Process ongoing. • Completion and implementation set for January 2011.

  11. OTHER RELATED ISSUES • Parent sensitization on the use, care and monitoring of laptops. • Integration of Laptops into the Teaching and Learning process. • Support for parents on the use of Laptops.

  13. Integration of Laptops into the Teaching and Learning process • STAGE 1:- IT Teachers to teacher an Introductory program on the basic in Computer/Laptop use. Started September 2010. • Moodle re-training for ALL teachers:- Moodle is asoftware packagefor producing Internet-based courses and web sites. It is a global development project designed to support asocial constructionistframework of education. SEE: http://moodle.org/course/view. M

  14. Use of Moodle for course outline, lessons, notes, assignments, homework, progress reports, etc. • Use of an online assessment program I think it is www.classmarker.com for Multiple choice type assessment. • Submission of assignments electronically.

  15. TRINITY COLLEGE EAST PARENT/GUARDIAN LAPTOP INITIATIVE A SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAM • Program designed to develop the skills of parents in the Use of the Laptop. • Program based on needs of parents. • Tuition by selected Form Four students. • Program outline to include; basic laptop operation, basic use of productivity tools, use of internet, mastering emails, mastering use of social networking sites.
