  1. ICT INTEGRATION in the CLASSROOM St Joseph’s Convent San Fernando Friday, February 04, 2011

  2. EXPECTED OUTCOMES At the end of this session teachers will: • Appreciate the ways in which ICT can enhance the teaching/learning process • Identify and discuss issues involved in the integration of ICT • Develop ICT skills for enhancing teaching/learning • Know how to plan, develop, implement and evaluate an ICT lesson

  3. What is ICT? ICT - Information and Communication Technologies • It is the study or business of developing and using technology to process information and aid communications. (Webopedia) • a “diverse set of technological tools and resources used to communicate, and to create, disseminate, store, and manage information.” (Wikibooks) These technologies include computers, the Internet, broadcasting technologies (radio and television), and telephony.

  4. The Value of ICT in Education • A new society requires new skills : ICT increasingly pervade every aspect of life (work, learning, leisure, and health). Because ICT are the preeminent tools for information processing, new generations need to become competent in their use, should acquire the necessary skills, and therefore must have access to computers and networks during their school life.

  5. The Value of ICT in Education • Productivity enhancement: Schools are information- and knowledge-handling institutions; therefore, ICT should be fundamental management tools on all levels of an educational system, from classrooms to ministries

  6. The Value of ICT in Education • A quest for quality learning: Schools should profoundly revise present teaching practices and resources to create more effective learning environments and improve life-long learning skills and habits in their students. ICT are versatile and powerful tools that can help in this purpose and should therefore be present in every classroom, library and teacher room.

  7. ICT Roles in the Educational System ICT can and should play a variety of roles inside a school. Some of the more important ones are pedagogical, cultural, social, professional and administrative. ICT, if sensibly deployed and with carefully selected software, can positively affect many aspects of school life, from a healthy questioning of present teaching practices to a gradual improvement of the quality, scope and depth of the learning environment, as well as to provide a remarkable opportunity for teachers’ development. (Hepp et al, 2004)
