Sri Lanka Polonnaruwa Rankoth Vihara

Rankoth Vehera is a stupa located in the ancient city of Polonnaruwa in Sri Lanka. The stupa was built by Nissanka Malla of Polonnaruwa, who ruled the country from 1187 to 1196. The Rankoth Vehera has been built according to the tradition of the stupas of the Anuradhapura

  3. Ruinele oraşului Polonnaruwa se află pe malul de răsărit a imensului lac artificial Topa Wewa, sau Parakrama Samudra (Marea lui Parakrama, 2500 ha), creat de regale Parakramabahu I (1153-86), domnia căruia a reprezentat epoca de aur

  4. Maimuţa cu tocă (Macaca sinica)

  5. Mult mai tânără decât Anuradhapura şi având monumente mai bine păstrate, Polonnaruwa a fost capitală doar pentru o perioadă de 200 de ani (sec XI-XIII).

  6. Urmaşulla tron al regelui Parakramabahu cel Mare a fost Regele NissamkaMalla (1187-1196) care a ruinat vistieria ţării încercând să depăşească realizările predecesorului său în ceea ce priveşte construcţiile civile şi mai ales cele religioase

  8. Având ca model marea stupă Ruwanvelisaya din Anuradhapura, Rankoth Vihara este cea mai mare stupă din Polonnaruwa şi a patra din Sri Lanka.

  9. Rankoth Vihara are 55 metri înălţime

  11. Copacul sfânt Bo (ficus religiosa) care i-a ţinut umbră lui Buddha pe când medita, este plantat în curtea principală a mănăstirilor din Sri Lanka şi simbolizează iluminarea lui Buddha şi chiar pe Buddha însuşi.

  12. Copac de curry (Murraya koenigii) ale cărui frunze sunt folosite şi în bucătăria singhaleză dar mai ales în medicina ayurvedică
