  1. Dambulla Golden Temple 3

It is called Maha Raja Viltaraya (the temple of the Great King), because according to the common belief, its founder was king VattagamaniAbhaya, who personally assisted in its formation. The cave is painted all over in brilliant colors, and every part is in good repair. It is one hundred and seventy-two feet in length, seventy-five in breadth, and twenty-one feet in height near the front wall. The height from this place gradually decreases in an arc towards the floor on the interior side.

  3. Statuile au fost aurite în timpul domniei regelui Nissankamalla (1187 – 1196)

  4. Pereţii şi tavanul sunt acoperiţi cu frescă, în majoritate executată în secolul XVIII This cave contains fifty-there images. The majority of the statues are of Buddha in different attitudes. Many of them are larger, but none much smaller than life. The whole of the interior of this cave, whether rock or wall, is painted with brilliant colors of which yellow predominates

  5. Fresca ilustrează viaţa lui Buddha înainte şi după moartea sa, precum şi istoria răspândirii budismului în insulă The ceiling nearest the entrance is used mostly to depict the life of the Buddha, before and after his Enlightenment. In this part the artist has also attempted to paint the earlier births of the Buddha. A part of the cave seems to have been used by the artist to illustrate the history of the Island.

  6. În jurul dagobei din grotă sunt aşezate alte statui. Există şi un izvor despre apa căruia se spune că este miraculoasă There is also a dagoba and a spring which drips its water, said to have healing powers, out of a crack in the ceiling.

  7. Stupa with sitting Buddhas around it

  8. Usnisa Pe creştetul lui Buddha există o „flacără” în formă de stupă, pe o protuberanţa a creştetului, numită usnisa, care reprezintă flacăra iluminării, simbolul ajungerii în nirvana sau al supremei cunoaşteri The Usnisa (pronounced 'ushnisha') Buddhist tradition sees this not as a hair-knot, but as an extra level of the Buddha's head. It is believed to be a result and sign of his enlightenment. The Flame coming from the top of the usnisha is a symbol of the Buddha's enlightenment.
