The theme of Saint George battling the dragon has a long history in art, where it has often been understood as a metaphor for the victory of the Christian spirit over the forces of evil.

The original statue is stored in the collections of the National Gallery, the actual statue is a copy from 1967. There are currently 3 copies on display: in Sfantu Gheorghe and Cluj (Romania) and in Budapest
An interesting detail is that the armor on the saint is similar to the scales covering the body of the dragon! This detail became an inspiration for the poet and philosopher Lucian Blaga, in his poem “In front of a statue of Saint George” metaphorically capture this resemblance between winners and losers, between the forces of good and evil
