The project "Make.my.Stay" aims to improve hospital experiences for individuals with learning disabilities. This initiative involved setting up a group with service users and family carers to identify necessary changes and develop Top Tips for staff. Key strategies include employing a learning disability nurse and organizing a staff conference. Top tips emphasize maintaining a positive attitude, involving the person with a disability in care decisions, effective communication, and listening to family members. Future plans include hiring specialist nurses, encouraging patients to write diaries, providing resources for staff, and continuing collaboration with service user groups. Additionally, the hospital is implementing "Project Search" to assist individuals with learning disabilities in obtaining employment opportunities. The project involves hiring a student to work for six hours daily, gaining vital skills and work experience. Despite being unpaid, the project aims to enhance the student's employability. The hospital is enthusiastic about the positive impact of these initiatives.
