WHO plays a diverse role in Public Health • Objectives • Providing leadership • Shaping the research agenda and stimulating dissemination • Setting standards, promoting and monitoring their implementation • Articulating ethical and evidence based policy options • Providing technical support, catalyzing change • Monitoring the health situation and assessing health trends www.who.int

  5. WHO is largely financed byvoluntary donationsfrom member states www.who.int

  6. WHO spends its moneyprimarily on Essential health interventions & Administrative Support www.who.int

  7. 75% of annual budget is spent on Regional offices www.who.int

  8. Millennium Development Goals are designed to combat major socio-economic & health issues • MDGs derived from the United Nations Millennium Declaration (signed in 2000) www.who.int
