The story so far… • PACEY Local (then known as NCMA Local) was funded by the Department for Education to establish local peer support groups for childcare professionals • PACEY Local officially launched in January 2012 with a new community website, http://local.pacey.org.uk, and several local groups already started • PACEY Local groups are now running in 60 local authority areas in England • Around a thousand childcare professionals now access the website every week

PACEY Local can offer… • The opportunity to meet socially and professionally with other childcare professionals near you • Support and advice from other childcare professionals at the click of your mouse • Quality improvement by sharing skills, knowledge and ideas and learning together with others • Online networking on a dedicated community website • Information and support on accessing training and professional development • A strong collective voice in the local community • Access to up to date information and opinion on childcare policy and legislation

  15. Meetings in your local area • PACEY Local currently holds meetings in 60 local authority areas – and it’s growing! • Meetings include daytime drop-in groups, training sessions, discussion sessions and social events • Open to all childcare professionals – not just PACEY members

Support and advice • Advice on dealing with problems, by people who really know what you’re going through • Help with preparing for Ofsted inspection from those who’ve already achieved • Informal support for childcare professionals at all levels – experienced, newly qualified or anywhere in between • Get support as and when you need it

  17. Quality improvement • Improve the quality of your childcare provision by exchanging skills, ideas and knowledge • Make quality improvement a part of your day-to-day activities • Everyone has something to learn – everyone has something to teach

Network online at http://local.pacey.org.uk • Use the PACEY Local community website to network online with childcare professionals from around England • Discuss childcare-related topics in the forums • Chat about local issues, meet local people and review local businesses and services in your local group • Share your ideas, opinions and thoughts with other professionals • A safe, supportive environment

  19. Access training opportunities • Find out about training opportunities in your local area • Organise the training you need through your local group – and learn in the way you want to • Find out about the latest training opportunities from PACEY

Have your say • Use the collective voice of a PACEY Local group to have your say on local issues like funding cuts, road safety, or training provision for childcarers • Work together with the local authority, local children’s centres and childminding groups • Be a positive force to promote childcare in your area • Contribute your ideas to national policy development and debate

  21. Keep up to date • Read up-to-date information about Government policy and proposals on the community website • Discuss how policy and legislation changes will affect you • Find out what PACEY is doing to lobby for childcare professionals – and how you can get involved

How to get involved • Sign up to the Online Community at http://local.pacey.org.uk, join your Local Group online • Join in discussions in the Forums and in your Local Group • Participate in a PACEY Local meeting in your area • Make a commitment to your own professional development, and to promoting and supporting quality improvement in childcare • Remember – PACEY Local is your local network!

Want to do more? • PACEY is looking for local Facilitators in many local authority areas • You don’t have to be an expert to volunteer – peer support is about learning from each other, not being told what to do! • You’ll get full training and support from PACEY to organise and publicise meetings and events in your local area
