ANTICOMMUNIST CRUDSADE • House Un-American Activities Committee- (1947) targeted actors, directors and writers in movies that were suspected of communist ties. • blacklists– unofficial lists of people thought to be communist- careers and lives ruined • McCarthyism – Reckless charges against innocent citizens (named after Senator Joseph McCarthy)

  3. Characteristics of COLD WAR: • *Competition between US and Soviets • *War of Words/espionage /arms and space race • *Iron Curtain (Churchill) Soviets wanted to dominate Europe
