  2. The artifact • A book called the Brown Pony. • Rusty maroon. • Old pages. • Printed at D. Lothrop and Company. • Author, Joseph Dwight Strong. • Made in 1870.

  3. About the story, the brown pony • The brown pony is about a young boy named Maurice who is an orphan. And lives with his grandma. He is a very smart boy and works at a bakery. He has a friend named Robert, he works at the butcher shop. Robert’s job was to ride a brown pony around town to take orders. Maurice became jealous and wished he could ride around on the pony. • One Sunday after church Robert asked Maurice if he wanted to ride the brown pony. Maurice knew it was wrong but he did it anyway. • Later that afternoon Robert took Maurice to where the pony was grazing. When Maurice got on the pony he was doing alright but was a bit timid. After a while he got used to it. • Just then a rabbit darted by and scared the pony. The pony reared and threw Maurice off. Maurice landed and was not moving. When Robert got to him Maurice was barley concusses so Robert got help. • When Robert got back with some men, Maurice was sitting upbut he was very pale. the men decided to bring him to the hospital. At the hospital they found out Maurice had a broken arm. • In the end, Maurice repented of his sins and never did it again.

  4. Joseph Dwight Strong • Born on September 15, 1853 in Connecticut. • He was raised in Honolulu. • Married Isobel Osbourne in 1879. • Had a son named Austin Strong. • Had another son that died before his first birthday. • He died on April 5, 1899 at age 45.
