  1. Agenda • Introduction • Effects – How Does Habitat Loss Affect Mother Nature? • Causes – Contributing Factors To Habitat Loss • Definition : Process & Example • Process Success Criteria – At A Glance • Conclusion

  2. Introduction – Habitat destruction • It is the process in which the natural habitat is rendered functionally unable to support the species present.

  3. Effects • Habitat destruction vastly increases an area's vulnerability to natural disasterslike flood and drought, crop failure, etc. • The loss of trees from the tropical rainforests alone represents a substantial diminishing of the earth’s ability to produce oxygen and use up carbon dioxide.

  4. The loss of biodiversity may not directly affect humans, but the indirect effects of losing many species as well as the diversity of ecosystems in general are enormous. • When biodiversity is lost, the environment loses many species that provide valuable and unique roles to the ecosystem.

  5. Causes • Human impact on terrestrial and marine natural resources results in marine and coastal degradation. Population growth, urbanization, industrialization and tourism are all factors. • Forest loss and degradation is mostly caused by the expansion of agricultural land, intensive harvesting of timber, wood for fuel and other forest products, as well as overgrazing.

  6. What is a Process ? Tools Process Input(s) {Man, Machine, Material} Output(s) Process Success criteria: Metrics to assess quality of the output Techniques

  7. Example of a Process : Effluent treatment Flow meters / pH meters Lake water with solid wastes / Treatment Plant/ Operator Effluent treatment Treated water • Process Success criteria: • pH value • Chlorine content • Viscosity Filtration/ Heating/ Neutralisation/ Precipitation

  8. Process Success Criteria – At a glance
