  1. Serum calcium-ionic Ionized calcium is calcium that is not bound to proteins in your blood. It is also known as free calcium. Calcium is required for all cells to function. Calcium aids in the formation of strong bones and teeth. It is necessary for proper cardiac function. It also aids in the contraction of muscles, nerve transmission, and blood clotting. How the Test is Performed? It is necessary to provide a blood sample. Typically, blood is taken from a vein on the inside of the elbow or the back of the hand. How to Prepare for the Test You should fast for at least 6 hours before the exam. Why is the Test Performed? If you have symptoms of bone, kidney, liver, or parathyroid illness, your doctor may prescribe this test. The test may also be performed to track the progression and therapy of certain illnesses. Blood tests, for the most part, assess your overall calcium level. This study looks at ionised calcium as well as calcium linked to proteins.
