  1. Thailand By Helena Wilson

  2. About Thailand • First of all Thailand is often referred to as a golden land, not because there is precious metal buried underground but because the country gives off a certain lustre, be it the fertile rice fields of the central plains, white sandy beaches or the warm hospitality of its citizenry. • Thailand's cool seasons runs from November until the end of February. With its low humidity, relatively low temperatures and clear skies, the cool season is the best time to visit, though regular days of high 20s and low 30s might leave you wondering just who came up with the term ‘cool’. It is also the peak tourist season, so expect lots of new friends at the more popular spots like the islands and major towns.

  3. Culture • When arriving in Thailand, the first thing one might notice is Thailand's culture. There are not doubts that many cultures are different from Thailand and your place of origin. Below you will find useful information on not only overcoming culture shock and culture differences, but also learning to love and appreciate Thai culture and Thai language.

  4. Music and Dance Folk Music Folk Dance The folk dances are much more original in nature. Wai Khru and Ram Muay are both ritualized dance while Likay is performed at the village festivals. • The folk music of Thailand includes Luk Thung, Morlam and Kantrum.

  5. Fashion • Traditionally known for Thailand’s beautiful silks, active government promotion has now made Thailand the Asian center for trendy clothing, watches, leather wear, jewellery and other accessories. 10 million tourists to Thailand yearly add to the growing customer base for Thai fashion.

  6. Traditions • The most important thing that you must know while visiting Thailand is the Wai or the Thai mode of greeting. The Thai’s join the palms of their hands and bow their heads in order to show a respectful greeting. However such greetings are not to be used for a child.

  7. Religion Thailand is one of the most strongly Buddhist countries in the world. The national religion is Theravada Buddhism, a branch of Hinayana Buddhism, practiced by more than 90% of all Thais. Buddhism continues to cast strong influence on daily life. Senior monks are highly revered.

  8. Language • Spoken and written Thai remain largely incomprehensible to the casual visitor. However, English is widely understood, particularly in Bangkok where it is almost the major commercial language. English and other European languages are spoken in most hotels, shops and restaurants, in major tourist destinations, and Thai-English road and street signs are found nation-wide.
