  1. PACS ICC in Operations SVR-3 MPE, 8/9 Nov 2007 O.H. Bauer

  2. Herschel Ground Segment Overview

  3. Main Control Room @MOC

  4. IEGSE@FN, ESTEC, Kourou -- ICC@MOC

  5. PI Support Area (PISA) @MOC

  6. ICC@MPE: Logical Overview

  7. Logical overview (continued) • Due to bandwidth limitation (2 Mbits/sec) the PACS level 0 products will be regenerated at MPE, KUL and NHSC. Hence the Versant database systems need to be propagated to MPE, KUL and NHSC. • The database systems and PAL pools in the “internal reference area” will contain all data necessary for the PACS ICC to support operations. Of this data not all data might be copied to the public area due to security/protection issues.

  8. The PACS ICC at work

  9. Hardware setup • Pipeline processing, trend analysis, data distribution • Two 64-bit servers, multiple CPU/cores • RAID 5 disk array • backup to campus tape library • Processing power for local ICC users • Two 64-bit servers, multiple CPU/cores • fast access to disk array • local 4Gbyte 64-bit desktops • Dedicated PC for OBSM ? • Dedicated PC for ExpertHSPOT + MPS

  10. Software setup • OS: Linux • parallel processing cluster as an option for the number crunchers • load balancing cluster as an option for the user server • HCSS/PCSS • careful release schedule to match HSC updates • OBSM • ExpertHSPOT + MPS for engineering and calibration observations

  11. Procedures • Uplink calibration • Testing new CALU tables and scripts using CUS at the ICC • Formal delivery via files (CCB) • Downlink calibration • Testing new calibration products using both IA and pipeline at the ICC • Formal delivery via files (CCB)

  12. ICC@MOC and ICC@MPE: Staffing during CP and PV • ICC@MOC and if required also ICC@MPE staff will work on a seven day per week schedule, taking shifts if required • Minimum ICC@MOC personnel: • 1 Test manager (SE or CS, supervising ongoing test activities and taking decisions) • 1 Instrument expert (instrument and test progress monitoring, interface to SPACON) • 1 Uplink expert (modification of procedures, execution of schedule) • 1 OBSW specialist – in case of OBSW activities • 1 Instrument expert (near real time data analysis using Packet Recorder Files) • ICC@MPE: • Scientists for follow-up calibration analysis • Uplink expert(s) for possible calibration observation/AOT modifications • Software developers for possible S/W modifications • H/W, S/W, Data Base maintenace experts
