  1. “How the Rise of the Daily Me Threatens Democracy” pg. 115 – 7 • Review the definitions of “reasoning” and “evidence” in the Literary Terms box on the right side of the page. • Highlight the definition of “reasoning” in one color and “evidence” in the other color. • As you read the article, highlight examples of reasoning and evidence that the author uses to justify his claim that the diminished role of the newspaper is a problem for American democracy. “The Newspaper is Dying: Hooray for Democracy” pg. 119 – 21 • Review the definitions of “concession” and “refutation” in the Literary Terms box on the right side of the page. • Highlight the definition of “concession” in one color and “evidence” in the other color. • As you read the article, highlight examples of concession and refutation that the author uses to counter Sunstein’s article and justify his claim that the diminished role of the newspaper is not a problem for American democracy. You will read two articles in your SpringBoard book that debate the relevance of newspapers in our society. You will need two highlighters, each a different color, to mark the text.
