  2. How old are toddler’s? • 1, 2, & 3 year olds

  3. ONE – THREE-YEARS-OLD Like to feed themselves =self-feeding

  4. 1 year olds • Select finger foods • Offer a variety of foods • Can use a spoon

  5. 2 year olds • Fine motor skills are improving • Can eat with spoon and fork and they like to offer them to other family members • They should be allowed to get up from the table when finished due to short attention spans

  6. Three-year-olds • Have a full set of primary teeth and can chew most foods • Caregiver should cut meat and tough foods into small pieces.

  7. Portions Do you know how much a toddler eats compared to an adult? Eat about 1/3 to ½ of an adult portion.

  8. Food Preferences • Change from day to day • May like one thing today and something different tomorrow

  9. Should we use food as a way to reward or punish the child? Yes or No? Because we have to have food in order to survive! Food Reward or Punishment

  10. Food Habits Developed in early years follow toddlers through adulthood

  11. Use of Microwave • Be aware of hot spots in microwaved food. • Food should be stirred to prevent burning a child.

  12. Hot and Cold Foods • Provide toddlers with food choices that are not extremely hot or cold. • Think safety.
