Empowering Women in Rural Samoa to Combat Violence in Partnership with the United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence Aga

In rural Samoa, violence against women is prevalent and often goes unreported. The Samoa Victim Support Group is working to change this through advocacy, support, and survival training programs. The goal is to provide women with the tools to protect themselves, report violence, and gain economic independence. The project also aims to educate government officials, community leaders, and law enforcement on ways to reduce violence and support victims. Together, they are challenging traditional beliefs and practices that condone domestic violence.

  2. Kvinnors förväntade medellivslängd – 75,68 år • Andel flickor i grundskoleutbildning – 99,8%

  3. Fysiskt och sexuellt våld i hemmet är vanligt förekommande i Samoa. Dessa övergrepp betraktas som ett normalt och oundvikligt inslag i familjelivet (mer än 50% av alla offer väljer att inte rapportera denna typ av våld)

FÖRVÄNTAT UTFALL • Kvinnor kommer att ha tillgång till information om hur lag och polis kan skydda dem, förmåga och resurser att bilda nätverk mot våld, kraft att vända sig emot våld i sina liv och sitt samhälle, kraft och stöd att rapportera våld, ökad självkänsla och självförtroende och ekonomiskt oberoende med förmåga att bidra till byekonomin • Dessutom kommer regeringsledamöter, byäldste, kyrkliga ledare och polisen ha information och kunskap i att minska våld i sina samhällen, byrepresentanter att genom SVSGs stötta nätverk som stöd åt kvinnor och deras familjer, sluta använda “traditionella ursäkter” och “by-råds-böter” och hjälpa kvinnor att få tillgång till formella lagsystem, sätta stopp för tron att kvinnomisshandel är acceptabelt och att våld I hemmet är en privatsak och att förstå lagreformer som rör våld mot kvinnor
