Tests, Assignments & Grading • Standard Grading Scale: 90-100 A 80-89 B 70-79 C 60-69 D Below 60… • Grading Categories and Weights: • Benchmark: 70% (Tests, Quizzes, Labs) • Homework: 20% • Supporting Work: 10% (Activities not directly linked to a Benchmark, such as SI measurements, use of triple-beam balance and graduated cylinders, lab safety activities, etc.)

  10. Classroom Procedures & Expectations • Classroom Management: Setting Limits in the Classroom (MacKenzie & Stone, 2010) • Limited Choices & Logical Consequences • Example: • Behavior: Using iPod during instruction • Choice/Consequence: Put it away or lose it

  11. Procedures & Routines • Each falls under one or more of 3 Rules • Examples: • ALWAYS use proper safety equipment during labs and demonstrations. • Come to attention at “High Five” signal. • Have our materials ready before the bell rings. • Introduced over the next few weeks

  12. Homework • Copy assignments to Planner • Graded on completion and effort • Higher-level thinking questions • Homework at least once per week • Turn in to appropriate online or on paper
