    25. Aims of the Nuclear Department Provision of education and training in support of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme (NNPP). Research, and the provision of advice and consultancy, in support of the NNPP. Utilisation of spare capacity to generate income from provision of commercial nuclear training and consultancy services.

Nuclear Education and Training Profile delivered @ HMS Sultan (ND and RNSME) ~ 45 different courses Academic and Systems based Duration/Level/Range 1 day to 1 year Introductory to MSc Junior Rating to Flag Officer Semi-skilled to MD Core/In-house/Peripatetic/Bespoke ‘Nuclear’ student profile: ~ 20,000 student days per year. RN students ~ 55% Civilian students ~ 45%

    30. ND Research Policy It is the policy of ND to carry out research to support the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme (NNPP). Research is performed to support the validation of courses taught by the Department by external, higher degree awarding, authorities. It is the policy that all academic staff are encouraged to carry out research in both mainstream and peripheral areas of the NNPP.

ND Research Teams A unique combination of academic research across all disciplines - Departmental organisation reflect the recent integration of DNST and NSG - - Systems and operational training, including simulator training and Steam Training being delivered by the NSG under Lt Cdr Ian Harrop - academics being delivered principally through the Physics and Reactor Engineering Groups under John Robertson and Paul Chard-Tuckey - and the research and specialist support being coordinated by Neil Lynn - Departmental organisation reflect the recent integration of DNST and NSG - - Systems and operational training, including simulator training and Steam Training being delivered by the NSG under Lt Cdr Ian Harrop - academics being delivered principally through the Physics and Reactor Engineering Groups under John Robertson and Paul Chard-Tuckey - and the research and specialist support being coordinated by Neil Lynn
