  1. Research on Olympic Values and Small Steps for Life. By Ava Mason

  2. Olympic values From looking at the get set London 2012 Olympic website. I have researched the main Olympic values. These include respect, excellence, friendship, courage, determination, inspiration and equality. By respect, the value means taking care of your healthy, knowing what your limits are and playing with others fairly. Also, one of the most important Olympic values is excellence which means taking part in activities and giving everything your best ability. It also means setting goals for yourself, and trying to progress and achieve those goals. The other most important value is friendship, this means being able to understand others despite of any differences you might have. You must have friendships through doing sporting activities or just through playing games. “Get set” is a programme that helps children and young people have the chance to use these values throughout there lives, in local communities or places of learning. For my challenge card, I have included the Olympic value “excellence” as a caption. This way it can encourage the pupil to focus as much as possible when doing the challenges, so they can increase there progress and become healthier.

  3. Olympic values Some questions I researched that were asked on the section for 11-14 year olds are how using one or two of the values in your own life would help you now. Also, what value you would use to help you make a difficult decision. Some questions asked on the section for 14 -16 year olds are how relevant the values are to your own life and whether life would be different if you used the Olympic values. Some of the games you can play about Olympic values are playing a game where you solve every day dilemmas. After playing this, you will discover how you are rated for your decision making, against the Olympic and Paralympic values. http://getset.london2012.com/en/resources/educators/the-olympic-and-paralympic-values These photos have been taken from the website provided above

  4. Small Steps 4 Life feeling good research These pictures have been taken from the website named below I researched the different sections for my information point using the Small Steps for life website. They were Feeling good, Getting Active and Eating Healthy. I researched these by going on the Small Steps 4 Life website and looking at the valuable information. On Feeling good, I found out different ways you can feel good, as well as the fact feeling good is about emotional health, as well as physical. Some of the ways to feel good are getting rest, staying upbeat, talking to a friend, trying the 24 hour rule and staying in control. I included some of these ways, in my information point, and I will explain what they mean, by using the information I have gathered, about the different activities. http://smallsteps4life.direct.gov.uk/en/secondary/3-ways/feeling-good-inside.aspx

  5. These pictures have been taken from the website named below Small Steps 4 Life Healthy Eating I researched reasons why we eat unhealthily using the Eat Healthy sections on Small Steps 4 Life. I researched that our food choice is influenced by how we are feeling, how much money we have and who we are with. Other reasons also contribute such as our own likes and dislikes, for different food groups. Also, on the Small Steps 4 Life website, some ways they advise to keep healthy are through eating breakfast, eating more fruit and trying new things. Eating breakfast is said to promise larger concentration levels throughout the day. The description of the challenge to eat more fruit, is to set a target with friends, of a amount of fruit to eat in a period of four weeks. The trying new things challenge I researched, says that you should set a target to try one new things a week (something healthy of course). Apart from challenges, other tips I researched to keep eating healthy are snacking on fruit and drinking more water. Another thing I researched was the amount of different portions of food we should eat from different food groups. I learnt this from looking at a attachment from the Small Steps 4 Life website that showed me a diagram of the amount of different food groups I should eat. The smallest portion we should eat is of fatty foods and the biggest is of fruit and vegetables ad well as of carbohydrates, like bread and rice. http://smallsteps4life.direct.gov.uk/en/secondary/3-ways/healthy-eating.aspx

  6. Small Steps 4 Life Getting Active These pictures have been taken from the website named below I researched different ways of Getting Active using the Small Steps 4 Life website. Different ways include, having a healthy heart, maintaining a healthy weight, having more energy, having strong muscles and bones as well as having fun. Some of the challenges I researched are Pacing yourself, this is walking 1000 paces at lunch each day. Another challenge I researched is get dancing, this is getting a group of friends together and making up a dance routine, with a minimum of two practices a week. Outside Gym is taking a adult friend to a local park to set up a outside gym, then spending 15-20 minutes on the different kinds of equipment you have brought. This will encourage you to enjoy getting fit because you are with your friends and in a nice outdoor area. Tools required for this are gym equipment such as matts and weights, although some of the ways to get fit can just involve using a matt to lie on when muscle stretching. http://smallsteps4life.direct.gov.uk/en/secondary/3-ways/getting-active.aspx

  7. Researching conclusion Finally, I believe I have researched many Olympic Values and many challenges and tips of becoming healthy using Small Steps 4 Life. I think I have enough information to use for other publications such as in my Information Point.
