  1. April Monthly Reflection 8th Grade Project: Learning the Flute

  2. Mentor Collaboration • This month, my mentor and I mainly worked on the songs I am playing for the end of my project. • We were able to choose a short song that would demonstrate my progress throughout this project. • In addition, we also worked on playing high notes. I am still struggling with the high E and high F notes. • My mentor suggested that I shouldn’t play the song I picked last month because it had many high notes and I was still struggling with them. • I only met with my mentor once this month so far because we both had very busy schedules.

  3. What I learned • For the first half of this month, I have mainly been practicing the songs that I am playing for the final part of my project. • Although I am still struggling with the high notes, I have been able to improve when I am playing them. Now, I am able to play the notes quieter and with a better tone then before. • I also learned that I am going to have to practice a lot more in order for me to play the song that I have selected. • Another thing that I learned is that although I have learned a lot in the past months, I have not progressed as fast on flute as I thought I would. • Since I have not progressed as far, I am playing ashort song instead of the one piece I had selected last month. I also am not going to be learning all 12 major scaled because some of the scales are too complex to learn.

  4. The song that I am playing.

  5. Next Month • Since next month is the end of the project, I do not plan on learning anything new. • Although I am not going to be adding anything to my project in May, I am going to have my song learned and recorded by then. • I am also planning to have my project completely done in about a week. • For the rest of April, I am going to make sure that I practice a lot and get my song learned and recorded. • In the second half of April, I will focus solely on practicing, learning, and recording my song.
