  2. Who is Mrs. Broome? • Have taught 29 years, 11 at Madeira • 3rd year teaching Gr. 6 Social Studies • Taught all grades K-12 • Taught computers to Gr. K-8 • High School Librarian • Taught at 3 different Catholic schools

  3. Family • Married- 26 years • Daughter Sarah, Age 24- Teaching Math in Baton Rouge, LA • Mother, Grandmother, Grandfather, Mother-in-Law, Aunts all teachers • Live in Kenwood

  4. What are we doing in Social Studies this year? • EXPLORE THE WORLD • Geography • Ancient World History • Map Studies

  5. What will I be graded on? • Tests-100 points • Quizzes- Varies • Homework- 5 points • Classwork- Varies • Projects- Varies

  6. Classroom Materials • Blue Binder • Notebook Atlas • Planbook • The World and Its People text book • History Alive! Interactive Student Notebook (ISN) • Colored Pencils, Scissors etc.

  7. Room Walk • Assignments/ Agenda • Mrs. Broome’s desk • Vocabulary Wall • Computers • Cabinets/ Drawers

  8. Rules • Respect for self, others, teachers • Use “The Golden Rule”- Treat others as you wish to be treated • Responsible for self- be prepared- • Bring your homework and materials every day! No going back to locker

  9. Procedures • Attendance Stick • “Do Now” from Agenda on board • Get out materials • Getting quiet • Bathroom passes • Absences/ Make up Work • Clean up after yourself!

  10. Homework • Homework posted every Monday to board and Progress Book/Web Page • Most HW is graded in class the next day- so you cannot turn it in late • Late assignments accepted ONLY until unit test with deduction

  11. Rewards for Following Rules • Learning more and better grades! • Enjoyable, orderly and stress-free class • Tickets for weekly raffle • Teacher praise • Positive notes/ phone calls home

  12. Consequences for breaking rules • Verbal warning for behavior • “Check” for no homework, • class misbehavior • being unprepared • Missing any HW- no Friday recess • 3 “Checks” in 1 week- no Friday recess • 3 No Recess in a row OR No HW in 1 week = DT
