Academic Intervention ServicesNew York State(Section 4402 of the Education Law) • Academic Intervention Services (AIS) is one response to our district’s Response to Intervention program • AIS is additional instruction which supplements the instruction provided in the general curriculum and assists students in meeting the State learning standards • It is intended to assist students who are at risk of not achieving the State learning standards in ELA and Mathematics • It shall be made available to students with disabilities on the same basis as non-disabled students • It is a mandated program

  4. NYS English Language Arts Learning Standards • Standard 1: Language for Information and Understanding • Standard 2: Language for Literacy Response and Expression • Standard 3: Language for Critical Analysis and Evaluation • Standard 4: Language for Social Interaction

  5. NYS StandardsinMathematics Five Content Strands • Number Sense and Operations • Algebra • Geometry • Measurement • Statistics and Probability

  6. New York State Performance Indicators • 3rd Grade ELA scores • 3rd Grade Mathematics scores • 4th Grade ELA scores • 4th Grade Mathematics scores Your child’s score determines his or her level of service based on ranges set by New York State.

District Performance Indicators Reading and Writing: • Letter, Sound, and Sight Word Identification • Kindergarten • Fountas and Pinnell’s Benchmark Assessment • Grades: K through 2nd Mathematics • Kindergarten • Grades 1 and 2 For your child’s level of service in reading, please refer to the handout AIS Qualifying Scores for Reading.

  10. Helping at Home Reading and Writing Help: • Everyone reading for at least 15 minutes per day • Fluency • High Frequency words • Comprehension activities • Writing opportunities Mathematics Help: • Review basic facts • Tell time on a non-digital clock • Practice counting money
